Celebrating Railways: Past, Present and Future
The highlight of the anniversary year will be Rail Futures, a celebratory festival taking place in late September and early October.
In 1825, the world came to Shildon to see the future and another opportunity to witness the future of the rail industry will be afforded over the anniversary weekend. Working with rail industry partners, a special selection of the next generation of rail vehicles will be on display. Visitors will also be able to find out more about careers in the modern rail industry and take part in activities that encourage them to think big.
Also taking place as part of the celebrations will be the exhibition of photographs featuring the western end of the Stockton & Darlington Railway. Families will be able to enjoy a wide range of make and take activities, whilst the popular Friends of the NRM (NE) talks programme will return. These activities will run until the end of the year.
